Third Grade is an exciting year that marks a major stepping stone of Music Education at our school.  This year, students will be reading music on a full treble clef staff, identifying notes by their letter names and associating pitches with solfege syllables.  They will identify rhythms through their counts, instead of rhythmic syllables.

 

Third Graders will also be playing the recorder, as an introduction to wind instruments in preparation for their band experience next year. (You may hear about Karate belts and practicing.)

 

In addition, Third Graders will learn about, collect information on, and experience instruments of the band up close and personal.  They explore a new instrument every month of the school year through the Instrument of the Month activity.
