Learning and exploring the foundations of Music Literacy

FIRST GRADE

In First Grade, we differentiate between beat and rhythm, begin to identify rhythms using Kodaly rhythmic syllables, and further explore pitches in relation to each other and assign solfege to pitches.

In addition, we study form and structure of songs with a focus on looking for and identifying patterns. Some examples of activities we study patterns are simple hand clapping, partner dances, and play parties.

We explore and identify where we may have musical experiences outside of the music classroom.  We do a special unit on storytelling.
